Celebrity Hotspots

We get a medley of International celebrities coming to Ireland year in year out and they absolutely love it here. Some celebs have holiday homes here, and some are just visitors but one thing is for sure, they all love Ireland.

Holiday Homes

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick own a holiday home in the Gaeltacht village of Kilcar in Co. Donegal and visit frequently throughout the year! The couple feel really at home in Donegal and love the peace, quiet and beautiful scenery.  The pretty, quiet and peaceful village of Kilcar is in the south west of County Donegal and is surrounded by beautiful mountains and countryside. It’s also just a short drive away from the popular seaside town of Killybegs, famous for its fresh fish & chips. This stunning destination is a polar opposite from their home and busy lives in New York City, one of the busiest cities in the world.

Liam and Noel Gallagher, the front men of 90’s super group Oasis are regular visitors to County Mayo in the west of Ireland. Their Mother is a native of Charlestown, Co. Mayo and the brothers have been spotted regularly in Mayo, Sligo and the surrounding counties. Liam has recently been spotted supporting the ‘Mayo for Sam’ campaign at Knock Airport and belting out a tune or two in J.J Finans pub in Charlestown.

Academy Award winner Daniel Day Lewis once declared that he would semi-retire to his 50 acre farm in Annamoe, County Wicklow if he won an Academy Award for his role in the hit movie Lincoln 2013.  Daniel scooped the award for Best Actor so don’t be surprised to find him wandering around the Wicklow countryside. The beautiful hamlet of Annamoe is located between Roundwood and Laragh on the road to Glendalough, in one of the most scenic parts of Wicklow.  The stone humpback bridge is a popular place for visitors to stop and take in the spectacular views of the Wicklow countryside.

 Celebrity Visitors

Ireland has had some famous visitors over the years with Beyoncé, Rihanna, Julia Roberts and Sean Connery all making their way to our beautiful country.  Beyoncé along with husband Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy spent the day cycling around Dublin and visiting some of the city’s most popular attractions including the Phoenix Park. Pop star Rhianna threw a private Thanksgiving party in a Dublin Pub to celebrate as she was away from home for the holiday. Both Julia Roberts and Sean Connery have spent time touring around stunning County Kerry and coincidentally both are reported to have visited Dick Mack’s pub in Dingle.

Probably the most famous visitor of all has to be President Barak Obama. The President of the United States traced his roots back to a little village in Moneygall, Co. Offaly.  Obama famously visited the village with his wife Michelle in 2011 and enjoyed a pint of Guinness in Ollie Hayes’ Pub after walking through the village and meeting some of the locals who filled the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of the most powerful man in the world.

Hollywood A lister Mel Gibson has been spotted trekking through the Sugar Loaf Mountains of County Wicklow in recent weeks. He’s currently filming some scenes in Ireland of his new movie, The Professor and the Madam with fellow Hollywood superstar Sean Penn. The Sugar Loaf, known for its steep slope and conical shape, is a hugely popular walking trek as it boasts some stunning views of the Wicklow coastline and the rest of the Wicklow mountain range.

A-list weddings

David and Victoria Beckham chose Lutrellstown Castle, just outside Dublin, as their wedding venue back in July 1999. The historic castle estate is just fabulous and has an air of history and grandeur from the moment you enter the resort. The stunning castle is situated in the heart of the 560 acre estate and boasts amazing views of the Irish countryside. Simply stunning!

Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan tied the knot to Keely Shaye Smith in the gorgeous Ashford Castle in County Mayo back in August 2001. The 5 star Ashford Castle hotel is situated in the pretty village of Cong in County Mayo, close to where the legendary film ‘The Quiet Man’ was filmed. Ashford is also regarded as one of the top hotels in the world and it’s easy to see why, it just oozes luxury with its sumptuous rooms and unrivalled service! Other famous guests at Ashford Castle include former United States President Ronald Regan, Hollywood Actor Brad Pitt and music legend John Lennon.

Last but not least Kim & Kanye famously spent part of their Honeymoon in Ireland after their wedding in 2014. Despite rumours of lavish requests and diva-like behaviour from the couple, Kim has stated on twitter to have had a wonderful time on her romantic honeymoon. The couple arrived into Cork Airport in 2014 by Private Jet and spent time in Castle Oliver, Co. Limerick and Ballyfin House in Co. Laois.

Celebrities have visited all four corners of Ireland from the beautiful hills of Donegal to the stunning Dingle Peninsula.  With such gorgeous coastline and countryside and vibrant city life it’s easy to see why they love it here so much.
